The sudden demise of Sushant Singh Rajput has left all of us in a state of shock. While we all continue to mourn his demise, it is essential to celebrate his work even more. I was waiting for the right opportunity to write something about him and Dil Bechara’s OTT release is obviously the perfect one.
But I’m a pretty pathetic reviewer as I’m a typical Indian with the eye for everything that’s called nonsense by the connoisseurs. Therefore, I would like to showcase the excellent part of the film. Sushant’s performance and certain scenes did grab my attention and it will last longer hamesha.
Sushant’s Compelling Performance
I’m not a pretty big fan of Sushant Singh Rajput. But some of his movies did catch my attention. His role as Dhoni and his compelling performance in Kedarnath were pretty impressive. He yet again proves the same and in fact, sets the bar high with a performance that is beyond expectations. As Fault in our Stars is not new to all, I need to tell the plot. But the way Sushant showcased Manny aka Immanuel Rajkumar Junior is hilarious as well as dreadful.
Expressing Weakness with Strength
A scene where Cancer survivors/sufferers gather, Manny as well as Kizzie are found. Manny played by Sushant expresses that he lost his leg with so much strength and still promises to produce an Oscar-winning film imitating Rajnikanth. Then his urge to fulfill Kizzie’s desire to go meet Abhimanyu Veer at Paris just because he never felt the happiness of winning/playing Basketball after removing his leg.
Peppy Dance Performance
In the initial frames, you won’t believe Manny is sick with Cancer and lost a leg. Well, creative liberties are allowed unless it collapses the viewing experience. His performance for the title track does prove his ability with beautiful expressions to impress the audience.
Making the Audience Cry
Very few actors have the ability to make the audience cry. Jaya Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut were among the ones who created that magic on screen (according to me). The moment he reveals that he might die soon to Kizzie, the amount of emotions oozing out of the audience is a testimony to his compelling performance. Well, here the audience is my family.
Added to this, the performance of female lead Kizzie Basu played by Sanjana Sanghi as well is pretty appreciative. Saif Ali Khan as usual leaves a lasting impact even though his role has less scope. I didn’t want to compare Dil Bechara with its original version i.e. Fault in our Stars as my review is more towards Sushant’s performance alone and his acting prowess.
If he had survived, he’ll be the most sought after. As common citizens, all we can hope is, the mystery behind his death is solved.
Well guys, do watch Dil Bechara on Disney+ Hotstar before it is too late. In the meantime, keep watching this space as I’m next writing on Vidya Balan’s stunning performance in Shakuntala Devi once the movie releases.
